I ROBOT

Puzzling on the Pygmalianesque desire to create an other that is not human but one's own. I built a meccano robot, taught it to speak and move as I wanted it, juxtaposing the latex to add a fetishistic frisson, this was shown in a corridor space. The long strip of latex hung from a curtain pole against the wall and the film was projected at floor level against it.

Research was conversing with cleverbots on line, watching Wall-e, Blade Runner, Ex Machina, Star Wars, Robot Stories, Humans and many more. As well as continuing to read and discuss psycho-analytic thinking about attachment to an object, how much that object has to do, perform or look like to become 'real'.

Louis Philippe Demers lecturing at Wimbledon said that people will attribute human qualities to very little, we are programmed to see a face, to recognise friend or foe in a shape or movement. We are all cyborgs if we have a mobile phone.
